I would like to see the tab colors in the chat window match the color of the sender. It would be more easy to figure out which tab to use to respond.

Each of the chat channels has a color associated with it. For both the "From" text and the "To" text, everything before the colon in the response is colored. For example, "All" (local) is yellow, "Alliance" is orange, "Guild" is green, etc.

To respond on the appropriate channel, one has to first identify the channel, then select the appropriate tab, and then respond. I am suggesting that it would be easier to select the appropriate channel, if the tab had at least a little bit color added to it. I am a garaniamals kind of guy (this is a reference that old people will understand), and it is easier to match colors than it is to remember which tab corresponds to which channel.

The idea makes sense, and it wouldn't be too hard to implement. The question is would it gum up the look and feel of the HUD too much.

I know all the colors myself, but it would be a nice feature.

The City of Heroes chat interface is one of the best I've seen. Its pretty much customizable to what you want with the option of having multiple windows, chat tabs in whatever window you want (so you can separate them), etc. Also has an in game messaging system which works great. Maybe NCSoft can get Cryptic and Anet to share some ideas?
